Nissan Juke Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and reassemble Timing Cover on 1.6L petrol Nissan Juke?
A: To remove components, first disconnect the battery negative terminal. Firmly apply the handbrake, jack up the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on axle stands before removing the right-hand front roadwheel. Next, take out the right-hand front wheel arch liner, drain the engine oil, clean and refit the engine oil drain plug with a new sealing washer, and if necessary, replace the oil filter. After reassembly, refill the engine with fresh oil. Proceed to remove the cylinder head cover, Crankshaft Pulley, and alternator. Undo the three retaining bolts to take off the coolant pump pulley. Support the engine under the sump with a jack and block of wood, then remove the right-hand engine mounting. Working in reverse of the tightening sequence, slacken and remove the timing cover retaining bolts, noting the different lengths and diameters of the bolts. Some bolts may be accessed more easily from under the front wheel arch, and it may be necessary to adjust the jack height for alignment. Carefully pry the timing cover away from the engine, taking care not to damage it, especially around the two steel dowels at the top. For refitting, renew the crankshaft oil seal, ensuring the new seal's lip faces inwards and is seated squarely. Clean the mating surfaces of the timing cover and engine, apply a thin bead of suitable sealant, and ensure the steel dowels are clean and oiled. With assistance, lower the timing cover into position, ensuring the oil seal lip is not damaged, then install and tighten the retaining bolts in sequence. Refit the right-hand engine mounting, coolant pump pulley, alternator, crankshaft pulley, and cylinder head cover. After reassembly, refill the engine with fresh oil, then reattach the inner wheel arch liner, front roadwheel, and lower the vehicle, tightening the roadwheel nuts to the specified torque.
