Q:
How to inspect and replace brake discs, including checking disc runout, resurfacing, and installing new discs and pads on Nissan Sentra? Posted by Customer
A:
To begin, loosen the lug nuts and raise your car on jack stands in order to inspect the brakes. Remove the wheel and fix the lug nuts in so that they can hold the disc. Remove brake caliper and hang it aside using wire. Look at the surface of disc for score marks or others damages. Some scratches and shallow grooves are normal, but deep scoring requires refacing a disc after dismantling it. Both sides of the disc should be checked. Using a dial indicator, check for runout by placing it near the outer edge of a disc and rotating it. The gauge reading should not exceed the specified runout limit. If it does, refinish the disc. It is recommended to resurface discs whenever brake pads are replaced. Otherwise, remove any glazed finish with sandpaper or other abrasive material like emery cloth etc. Measure disk thickness with micrometer or vernier calliper gauge as appropriate. To take off the disk, remove caliper mounting bracket and hub onto which you just lifted out lug nuts from your drive axel hub assembly onto which you just lifted out lug nuts from your drive axel hub assembly through this last step four words need to be removed so that meaning could be clear then lift out disk from hub assembly onto which you just lifted out lug nuts from your drive axle. The caliper mounting bracket holds new disk in place; therefore put new one over threaded studs and install this part right here.Tighten bolts. The bolts are tightened.Installation of wheel is done by tightening lug nuts while lowering vehicle against ground.Pushing down brake pedal brings pads into contact with rotor.Check the brakes before driving.
