Nissan Altima Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you replace a front crankshaft seal without causing oil leaks on V6 Nissan Altima?
A: Pull off the Crankshaft Pulley and using a seal removing tool or an equally big screwdriver, gently pull out the seal from the cover not causing any scratch, gouge or distorted area of the seal where it fits to avoid oil leak. Scrub the bore with the purpose of removing the old seal material and corrosion; insert the new seal in such a way that the seal lip will be inside towards the engine and a little bit of oil on the outer periphery of the seal piece. Submerge the seal into the bore using a large socket and hammer, then use a new seal that has an outside diameter of the above and hammer it in such a way that it sits perfectly flat on the face of the case. Check the flat DAMPER surface which is in contact with the OIL SEAL; if it has grooved and reciprocated round the seal for sometime it leaked so you have to remove and replace with a new one CRANKSHAFT PULLEY. Dip the seal lips in engine oil and replace the crankshaft pulley and bolt it in position and tight it up to the recommended torque. Perform actions opposite to the removal process, and then start the engine, and look for signs of oil leakage.
